In the initial stage of learning any language, vocabulary itself plays a primary part in language acquisition and communication. Vocabulary is always considered as a core component of language proficiency and provides much of the basic knowledge for how well learners speak, listen, read and write. Therefore, many teaching methods with the aim of helping language learners to improve and learn vocabulary have been given such as listening to foreign music, watching foreign cartoons, and playing games. Among them, using games to teach and learn vocabulary has been applied in many countries in the world as a supportive approach. However, in Vietnam, not many language teachers as well as learners admit the effectiveness of the kind of methodology for vocabulary teaching and learning. This study objectives to figure out the perceptions of teachers and non-major English students on lexicon and language games inside classrooms,the influences of language games and the difficulties they may face in the class. In this research, a quantitative and qualitative study was conducted with the in-depth interview of five teachers to examine their attitudes towards vocabulary and their concerns about language games as a technique to teach lexicon. The research also applied the observation of students’ performances before, while, and after taking part in that language game. Besides, a questionnaire was also delivered to students to explore their opinions after having participated in language games inside the classroom. The findings demonstrated that even using games is helpful in boosting EFL students' vocabulary knowledge, correct behavior, and vocabulary retention, it still remains certain difficulties that both teachers and students encountered when teaching and learning vocabulary.
