Tóm tắt nội dung

The Relationship of Verbal and Nonverbal Communication examines the complex relationship between language and nonverbal behavior in human interaction. The book brings together studies of verbal and nonverbal communication from linguistic, sociological, psychological, and anthropological perspectives. It explores how language and nonverbal behavior organize social systems and examines suprasegmental features of interaction, including stress, rhythm, synchrony, and chronemics. Other sections address the organization of verbal and nonverbal behavior in face-to-face communication, gesture and speech, preverbal communication, and the development of communicative competence. The book also considers the acquisition of communicative behavior and theoretical approaches to human interaction. With contributions from scholars in different disciplines, it provides an interdisciplinary perspective on how verbal and nonverbal signals work together to create meaning and structure social interaction.
