Abstract:

This book calls for putting language and translation studies at the center of collaborative efforts to understand and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bringing together scholars and experts from a variety of fields, the book emphasizes the role of linguistic sensitivity, intercultural understanding, and translation mediation in communicating and managing the health crisis. With data from nearly 20 spoken and signed languages ​​around the globe, the work illuminates how language shapes discourse and perceptions of the pandemic in both the global North and South. By moving beyond an Anglophone perspective, the book broadens social, cultural, and medical understandings of COVID-19. This is essential reading for researchers in translation studies, applied linguistics, and medical humanities.
