Zukerfeld analyzes how technology companies exploit free cognitive labor from users (e.g. through social media interactions, user-generated content, etc.), and points out the importance of intellectual property rights in creating and maintaining competitive advantage. The book lays the foundation for managers to rethink the value chain in the digital age, where products are not only tangible goods, but also information and experiences encoded in the form of data.
