Student engagement plays a important role in the effectiveness of teaching and learning, as it directly affect students’ motivation and academic results. This study investigates the engagement of non-English majored students in English learning activities at HaUI within a blended learning context, including online learning via the English for Occupational Purposes (EOP) platform and face-to-face instruction. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining analysis of 42,600 online learning tasks and 5 classroom observations to examine students’ behavioral, cognitive, and emotional engagement across three faculties: Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, Business, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The online data shows that 81.88% of tasks were completed before class, indicating a relatively high level of behavioral engagement. However, students spent less time on online learning activities than the 150 hours required in the syllabus. Classroom observations showed higher engagement in pair and group work compared to individual and whole-class activities. Cognitive engagement was at a moderate level, while emotional engagement was the lowest. Still, group-based games helped increase students’ participation and interest. The study offers insights into student engagement in blended EFL contexts and suggests implications for improving teaching effectiveness.
