Role-playing has been a prevalent instruction approach in English classrooms in Vietnam and numerous other nations for years. Having its strengths, the researcher particularly explored the role-play technique's efficacy in fostering speaking skills among 52 first-year non-English major students. The objective was to offset some problems such as passive participation, inactive classroom settings, low motivation, confidence shortage, and restricted opportunities for practice in speaking. This action research was undertaken in two office administration classes at Hanoi University of Industry, and the goal was to find out how role-playing could enhance students' speaking skills. The researcher employed three techniques to gather data: questionnaires, student followup interviews, and classroom observations on evaluation forms. The study begins by reviewing key points regarding speaking capacity and role-playing, then proceeds to analyze students' feedback and teachers' observations of the impact of role-playing. The findings indicate that role-playing alters students' attitudes towards speaking, improving class participation, and speaking skills.
