The description of U.S. Regulations contained in Part 5 of the Handbook of Automobile Passive Safety provides a broad view of all the specifications and technical problems related to compliance with the legal FMVSS requirements. The elaborated and intricated specifications of these regulations are explained in a simple way, with the support of comprehensible pictures and many summary tables. Complex requirements are in this way translated into clear and easily understandable technical specifications. The technical limits that the regulations have, and the impact they have on vehicle design are discussed at the end of each chapter.
