An Evolutionary Story of Agency: How Life Evolved to Act on Its Own is an open-access study of the role of “agency” in the evolutionary history of life. “Agency” is understood as the ability of organisms to act, make decisions, and control their behavior in order to adapt and interact effectively with their environment. The book examines this topic from an evolutionary biology perspective, explaining the formation and development of agency through evolutionary stages, from microorganisms, plants, to animals — biological systems of increasing complexity. Through that, the book sheds light on the selective advantage of this ability and how it helps life adapt, develop, and succeed on Earth. In short, this is a book in the field of biotechnology - evolutionary biology, providing a scientific perspective on the development of the ability to act on its own and adapt in life forms
