Abstract:

The book introduces the fundamental concepts in general chemistry, from the nature of matter, measurement and methods of solving chemical problems. It presents in detail the structure of atoms, molecules, compounds and chemical reactions. Next, the book analyzes reactions in solutions, properties of gases, energy in reactions (thermochemistry), and the quantum mechanical model of atoms. The book also clarifies the periodicity of elements, the two main theories of chemical bonding (Lewis structures and molecular orbitals), as well as the characteristics of liquids, solids and intermolecular forces. Finally, the book concludes with a chapter on solutions and their properties.
