Abstract:

The book introduces basic organic chemistry and biochemistry. The first part presents organic compounds such as alkanes, unsaturated hydrocarbons, alcohols, phenols, aldehydes, ketones and enantiomeric molecules. This is followed by important functional groups in biology including carbohydrates, carboxylic acids, esters, lipids, amines, amides, amino acids and proteins. The last part focuses on enzymes, vitamins, nucleic acids, protein synthesis and bioenergetic pathways.
