Abstract:

The epithelial tissue is not a clear source of autoimmune phenomena. However, genetic predisposition and the influence of many environmental and epigenetic factors can make the epithelium a springboard for the development of autoimmune diseases, such as Sjögren's syndrome, primary biliary cholangitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, or IgG4-related diseases. This book is designed as an introduction to the problem of autoimmune epithelial inflammation and diseases closely related to immune disorders of the epithelium, with a special emphasis on diseases affecting the exocrine glands. Both theoretical and practical knowledge, presented by authors from various medical specialties, will be useful to medical professionals facing this difficult problem in daily practice.
