The book Citizens’ Observatories on Geohazards introduces a new approach to monitoring and managing geohazards (such as earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, etc.) through community participation. The book presents citizen-based observation models (citizen observatories), applying digital technology (such as sensors, smartphones, social networks) to collect data, provide early warning and raise public awareness. The content also mentions the challenges and potential in combining citizen data with in-depth scientific data to improve disaster response capacity.
