This study examines the perspectives of teachers and students about the value ofvideo-based materials in English listening lessons, aimed at improving theeffectiveness of the instructional technique overall. Data were collected throughquantitative surveys with 105 students and qualitative semi-structured interviewswith five teachers and five focus groups of students. The result indicated that mostresearch participants (both teachers and students) held positive attitudes about the useof videos. They also affirmed that videos could be engaging and helpful in developingstudents' listening comprehension skills. Nonetheless, both teachers and studentsraised some serious issues with the use of video, such as numerous technical problems when delivering a lesson, distracting during assignments, the various levels of students' English language ability, and the lack of pedagogically appropriate video materials for lessons. Building on the findings of the study, the study also considers some pedagogical implications for addressing some of the findings but also for optimizing the educational value of video materials in listening courses.
