BIO 5: General Botany provides a comprehensive introduction to botany, starting with the structure of plant cells and tissues, and then describing in detail the organs such as roots, stems, leaves, flowers and seeds. The book presents important physiological processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, transport, nutrition, hormones and the response of plants to the environment. The content continues to explain sexual reproduction, variation and selection, development and classification. The book also expands to related groups of organisms such as prokaryotes, fungi, protists and plant groups from ancient to modern. The final section focuses on agriculture, food and water resources, population ecology, communities and ecosystems and conservation topics, emphasizing the role of plants in the environment and human life.
