Alternatives to Agonism: Ethical Approaches to Argument in the Composition Classroom introduces collaborative, listening, and respectful approaches to debate rather than confrontation. It teaches readers to recognize emotions, understand others’ perspectives, find common ground, and communicate ethically to resolve disagreements. In doing so, students develop important life skills such as remaining calm in debate, speaking thoughtfully, responding non-hurtfully, and building more positive conversations in school and in life.
