Abstract:

This book is an introductory text for students to a comprehensive, research-oriented view of Theoretical Chemistry. Students will solve the Schrödinger equation in 1, 2, and 3 dimensions for a number of important chemical problems, including the particle-in-a-box problem, harmonic oscillators, rigid rotors, and the hydrogen atom. Other topics include atomic structure, valence bonds, and molecular orbital theories of chemical bonding and group theory. Quantum theory is applied in molecular spectroscopy and NMR.
