Abstract:

The book provides a general foundation in chemistry from the atomic level. Beginning with the scientific method and experimental design, the book introduces matter, units of measurement, atomic structure, and quantum models. This is followed by concepts of the periodic table, molecules, types of chemical bonds (from Lewis models to advanced), and chemical reactions. Later chapters cover solutions, reactions in water, thermochemistry, gases and the gas laws, and finally states of matter and phase transitions.
