This study investigates the impact of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses in fostering the development of English language skills among students at a Vietnamese higher education institution. Utilizing a quantitative approach, data were collected from 154 EMI students majoring in tourism and hospitality. The influence of EMI courses on English skills and language components was thoroughly examined. The findings reveal that as a result of studying content subjects in English, students observe the greatest improvement in specialized English vocabulary related to tourism and hospitality. Reading and speaking skills show moderate improvement, while writing skills and the ability to apply English grammar in daily communication are perceived to improve the least. A comparison between second-year and third-year students indicates that third-year students rate the effectiveness of EMI courses in enhancing their English proficiency higher than second-year students. Additionally, students report vocabulary improvement through listening to lectures and participating in presentations, while listening skills are enhanced by EMI lectures, reading skills by class materials, and communication skills by delivering presentations in English. With a significance level of less than 0.05, the study concludes that students perceived an overall enhancement of their English proficiency when participating in EMI programs.
