Recent Developments in Functional Discourse Grammar is a collection of scholarly studies that applies and develops Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG) as a framework for analysing language structure and discourse. The book introduces the architecture of FDG and its four levels of analysis, and examines a range of linguistic phenomena from language-specific, comparative, and typological perspectives. Topics include negation, interpersonal adverbs, external possessor constructions, epistemic modality, evaluative binominal noun phrases, subject expression, and polysynthesis. The studies not only apply FDG to specific linguistic phenomena but also contribute to the further development of the theory by proposing modifications and extensions based on new linguistic evidence from different languages.
